Collets are manufactured from spring steel,
therefore the constant use gradually changes the collets dimensions. This
change then affects the accuracy of the collet which can affect the cut quality
and tool grip.
If the tool is not perfectly balanced in the spindle, it will wobble (This wobble is called run-out.) and
apply uneven forces to the spindle bearings which can cause premature spindle
failure. Collet life can be extended by cleaning the collet and tool after each
use.
Fun Fact – Keep yourself and your kids safe when carving pumpkins. Use a
sheetrock knife with a serrated blade, which is safer than a kitchen knife.
This will give you the best control – and remember to wear safety goggles, too!
