Tip of the Week • Reminder, You Could Win!

  —   Did you know?
If you are having trouble with material curling up off of the vacuum table surface, try putting masking tape around the edges to seal off the vacuum.

Tip of the Week • Be sure to organize your tools by function!

There is a huge difference between a tool designed for cutting wood and one designed for cutting aluminum. Lay them side by side in a drawer and that difference becomes nearly indistinguishable rendering each tool virtually useless.

Making a tool organizer is a fast, easy CNC project.
We did this at Techno!

Start with a block of wood and simply bore a series of holes in the top for your tools to drop into. If you want to engrave tool names into the surface, mill the top of the block first to ensure the engrave depth is uniform.

Tip of the Week • Did you know that you should change your collets every six months?

Collets are manufactured from spring steel, therefore the constant use gradually changes the collets dimensions. This change then affects the accuracy of the collet which can affect the cut quality and tool grip.

If the tool is not perfectly balanced in the spindle, it will wobble (This wobble is called run-out.) and apply uneven forces to the spindle bearings which can cause premature spindle failure. Collet life can be extended by cleaning the collet and tool after each use.

Fun Fact – Keep yourself and your kids safe when carving pumpkins. Use a sheetrock knife with a serrated blade, which is safer than a kitchen knife. This will give you the best control – and remember to wear safety goggles, too!

Tip of the Week • When Z zero is on top of the material, are slight variances in material thickness causing irregular depth cuts?

In your CAM package, set Z zero to the bottom of the material and on your machine set Z zero on the spoiler board.

Now your depth cut will always go to the bottom of the material.

New Techno Plasma TechProbe Digitizer for Reverse Engineering Geometric Shapes

Techno Inc. is excited to announce their newest CNC Plasma Accessory: The TechProbe Digitizer.

The new digitizing probe mounts easily to any Techno CNC plasma machine. The user-friendly TechProbe software will digitize an object with simple or complex geometric shapes. Input the object, scan-area dimensions and desired step- resolution into the software, and the program automatically collects the data. Most of the software’s default settings, like speeds and resolutions, will not have to be reconfigured.

Digitized 2-dimensional objects are generated onto the screen in a field of automatic toolpath points. Techno’s TechProbe software allows you to view the scan through its active-preview window. Parts can be imported into CAD/CAM plasma design software for revision or the data can be immediately cut without any revision, modification, or manipulation.
